Microsoft Word QuickStart

  Summary: This class serves as a quick introduction to Microsoft Word. Upon completion of this class students will know how to create and edit simple word processing documents.

Prerequisites: Completion of the Introduction to Windows class, or a good understanding of the Windows operating environment.

Class length: 1/2 day.

Targeted Skills:

  • Create and save a document in Word.
  • Open an existing document and use simple editing techniques to make changes.
  • Navigate in a large document by using the mouse and the keyboard.
  • Apply and remove character formatting.
  • Apply and remove paragraph formatting, such as alignments, borders, indents, and numbered lists.
  • Add and modify tabs.
  • Adjust margins and page layout.

 

Microsoft Word Tables and Merging QuickStart

  Summary: Students will learn how to create, edit and manipulate tables and make use of the mail merge features of Word.

Prerequisites: Completion of the Introduction to Windows class, or a good understanding of the Windows operating environment as well as a basic understanding of Microsoft Word.

Class length: 1/2 day.

Targeted Skills:

  • Create, modify, and format tables.
  • Convert tabbed text to a table.
  • Perform calculations in tables and create graphs from tables.
  • Use a table as a simple database.
  • Merge a document with data to create multiple variations of the document.

 

Microsoft Excel QuickStart

  Summary: This class serves as a quick introduction to Microsoft Excel. Upon completion of this class students will know how to create and edit a simple worksheet.

Prerequisites: Completion of the Introduction to Windows class, or a good understanding of the Windows operating environment.

Class length: 1/2 day.

Targeted Skills:

  • Identify the features of an Excel workbook.
  • Create a basic worksheet by entering text, values, and formulas.
  • Create basic formulas by using Excels built-in functions.
  • Move and copy data by using shortcut menus, drag and drop editing, and toolbar buttons.
  • Prepare a document for printing.

 

Microsoft Excel Charts QuickStart

  Summary: Students will learn the skills and concepts necessary to use the charting capabilities of Excel.

Prerequisites: Completion of the Introduction to Windows class, or a good understanding of the Windows operating environment. In addition, students should have a basic understanding of Excel.

Class Length: 1/2 day.

Targeted Skills:

  • Create charts that graphically represent worksheet data.
  • Modify existing charts.
  • Modify existing embedded charts.
  • Customize charts by applying formatting.
  • Use the AutoFormat feature to enhance charts.

 

Microsoft PowerPoint QuickStart

  Summary: This class serves as a quick introduction to Microsoft PowerPoint. Upon completion of this class students will know how to create a simple presentation using bullet slides.

Prerequisites: Completion of the Introduction to Windows class, or a good understanding of the Windows operating environment.

Class length: 1/2 day.

Targeted Skills:

  • Start the PowerPoint program, identify on-screen features, and navigate through a presentation.
  • Create and edit a title slide and bullet slides.
  • Use PowerPoint’s drawing tools to create a slide.
  • Incorporate clip art objects in a slide.
  • Change the overall appearance of your presentation by using design templates, and identify printing and presentation options.
