Introduction to Microsoft PowerPoint

  Summary: Students learn the basics of how to create slides and how to show presentations.

Prerequisites: Introduction to Windows or a good understanding of the Windows operating environment.

Class length: 1 day.

Targeted Skills:

  • Start the PowerPoint program, identify on-screen features, and navigate through a presentation.
  • Create a title slide in Slide view and bullet slides in both Slide view and Outline view.
  • Use PowerPoint's Help system.
  • Work with PowerPoint's drawing tools to create objects and text.
  • Incorporate clip art and WordArt objects in a slide.
  • Create an organization chart.
  • Create and edit graphs using Microsoft Graph.
  • Change the overall appearance of your presentation using design templates and slide masters.
  • Work with the AutoContent and Pick A Look Wizards.
  • Run a manual and an automatic slide show with transitions and builds.
  • Look at Notes Pages and PowerPoint's print options.

 

PowerPoint Advanced Features and Integration

  Summary: You will learn advanced features of PowerPoint, as well as how to integrate it with other Microsoft applications, such as Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word for Windows

Prerequisites: Introduction to Microsoft PowerPoint, or equivalent knowledge.

Class length: 1 day.

Targeted Skills:

  • Learn to recognize good presentation design techniques by examining a sample presentation.
  • Create a custom template by selecting a color scheme, background fill, and fonts.
  • Enhance a presentation by using graphic objects and other tools.
  • Open and modify a Word outline, and return the modified outline to Word.
  • Create and edit a Word table as an embedded object within PowerPoint.
  • Work with Excel charts, both as embedded and linked objects.
  • Create pie and column charts by using Microsoft Graph.
  • Use PowerPoint's drawing tools to create a flow chart.
  • Customize the PowerPoint environment by modifying toolbars and using the Options dialog box.
  • Use other PowerPoint features, such as toolbar options and the Find File feature.
