  Summary: Learn how to use Microsoft Project for Windows to assist in project planning.

Prerequisites: Introduction to Windows or a good understanding of the Windows operating environment. Also helpful is some project management experience, i.e., familiarization with such topics as Gantt Charts, PERT Charts, critical path and resource utilization.

Class length: 1 day.

Targeted Skill:

  • Identify the steps involved in project planning and how project management software can be helpful.
  • Plan a project by using Microsoft Project for Windows.
  • Link tasks effectively and work with time constraints.
  • Work with subtasks in an outline form.
  • Assign resources and their work schedules to tasks.
  • Resolve time and resource conflicts.
  • Effectively use the different views and reports available in Microsoft Project.
  • Sort and filter project information effectively.

 

Advanced Microsoft Project for Windows

  Summary: Learn how to use Microsoft Project for Windows to manage a project plan after a project has begun.

Prerequisites: Introduction to Microsoft Project for Windows, or equivalent knowledge.

Class length: 1 day.

Targeted Skill:

  • Create and preview a baseline report.
  • Track project progress.
  • Adjust the schedule of a future task, change the duration of a task, and change a task's constraint.
  • Assign resources, add a part-time resource, examine and manipulate how work is scheduled, and handle overtime.
  • Add subprojects and work with multiple projects.
  • Impost and export data.
  • Customize a PERT Chart, and create a macro and assign it to a button on the Standard toolbar.
